Battlefield 4 - Spoiled Review

So.. I've been playing this new Battlefield... and here are some of my thoughts about it...

So.. Battlefield is back.. unlike Call Of Duty that returns to us every single year, Battlefield franchise likes to make pauses in-between the releases. That is one of major reasons why it often gets more praise and is considered by some to be a more ''mature'' FPS when compared to CoD.

But, let's go behind all of that, the fanboy wars and such.. and just look at this game for what it is.

Battlefield is a classical shooter. Honestly, it doesn't offer anything new. It's back with that greasy graphics that everyone seems to love, but many don't even notice that most of graphical showcasing goes on in rainy weather (to show off water shaders and make the environment ''come to life'') and during nightime when most areas are hidden in darkness and a lot of lights and strong contrast make games seem more beautiful then they are.

It is getting quite tedious, that trend of making the shooters' story mostly in rainy weather and during night. It's like they're afraid to try something new. I'm not saying the graphics are bad, they are great technically, almost photorealistic at some moments. But they lack a lot in the artistic department.

The gameplay is your standard FPS... run, shoot everything that moves and run again. With some futuristic weapons you get all sorts of unnatural dots, arrows and such all over your screen. That seems to work fine with the new generation of games that needs those to fly around the screen in order to keep their attention on the game. There is nothing much to be said about the gameplay.. it's and FPS and that's it.

And then, there's the story mode. Now Battlefield was never the game you'd play for the story. Back in ancient times when everyone waited for CoD to play a great WWII shooter in singleplayer, Battlefield was the one people played for multiplayer. But, seeing how CoD took over that field, BF guys at least tried to compete in SP field... and they didn't quite succeed.

Latest CoD games don't have much of a SP story either, but even that fact doesn't make BF's singleplayer story look much better. It's a shallow story with some poor voice acting and some overused cliches.

Overall, Battlefield 4 is not a bad game, but it simply doesn't offer anything new. For that, I give it 5/10. Average.
